Abstract

John Stack seeks compensation for his slave, Solomon, who died while working on the state capitol building. Stack states that he "had hired to James Jones, - Commissioner of the State Capitol - to work on the state Capitol, a negro slave named Solomon." He further charges that said slave "was taken sick, & was known to be so by the overseer, & no Physician was sent for until his case was hopeless." The petitioner therefore "thinks that he should be paid by the State for the loss of said slave."
