Abstract

Thirty-two citizens "are Induced to petition your honorable Body to take into Consideration the propriety of Repealing an act of the General Assembly of this State passed in the year 1825 which prohibits all Nonslaveholders from acting as Jurors on the trial of Slaves." The petitioners assert that said act was "framed for the Exclusive benefit of the Slaveholders and as we Believe if not repealed will answer as a foundation for a Sistim of discriminating regulations that will ultimately distroy the Spirrit of our free Constitution & build an aristocracy upon the ruins of public liberty."
