Forty-two residents of Davidson County represent that "David, commonly called Davy Woods, heretofore the slave of Robert Woods, has been permitted to purchase himself, and to apply to the Legislature for an act of emancipation." They attest that said Davy is "a sober, industrious, and trusty man, one who has at all times acted in a manner becoming one in his condition." They therefore pray "your Honorable body to grant his petition."
