Juan Baptiste Maturin, "a free person, and by descent one-fourth African," and "sundry citizens" state that Maturin received a grant in 1828 from "the then existing Government" of Texas for "one sitio of land" about four leagues from the town of Nacogdoches. They further avow that he has lived on the land "about fifteen years" with his family "but that said land was never surveyed in pursuance of said Grant." The petitioners, "believing the title of said Maturin to said land to be imperfect," request that Maturin be granted a "full and perfect title in fee simple to said tract of land."
