Thirteen residents of Harris County ask that free woman of color Diana Leonard and her child be permitted to remain in the Republic. They recount that "she spent one year in the service of Col. James Morgan, and has lately, for about two years, lived in the City of Houston exercising the industry of a washer woman." Believing her to be "a good and industrious woman" and without "means of removing with her child beyond the limits of the Republic," they pray that an act be passed "for her relief, permitting her to remain so long as she shall behave herself peacably."
