Eighty-nine inhabitants of Texas "ask that a law may be passed emancipating" Liley, a resident of Houston "for the past five years." They explain that said Liley "by her industry and good Conduct ... has been enabled to realize sufficient of means to purchase her Freedom." They therefore pray that Liley be freed and authorized "to remain in Texas." Mrs. S. Mabry claims that Liley, also known as Delilah, "is one of the best cooks in the republick of Texas."
