The heirs of George Doherty of Nacogdoches County seek to emancipate Greenbury Taylor, "aged about 35 years, of yellow complexion" and "the favorite and body servant of the said George Doherty." They recount that "through his exertions, the lives of two of your petitioners were preserved; by reason of which petitioners feel under a lasting debt of gratitude to said slave." Urgently "soliciting the aid of your honorable body to carry into effect the dying wish of their beloved father," the heirs "most humbly pray that an act be passed freeing said slave."
