Petition #11585110

Abstract

Jackson H. Griffin emigrated to Texas in 1830 with his brother Washington, who died in 1832. Jackson Griffin, “who was then a minor,” became at his brother's death the "head of a family- said family consisting of negro Slaves - left by his brother to petitioner." Griffin attests that he fought "in the campaign of 1836" and later received "one League and Labor of land" from the Board of Land Commissioners for Liberty County. He reveals, however, that his land was later declared "fraudulent" by a special commission established by an 1840 law to investigate land grants. Griffin asks the legislature to validate his land certificate.
