Petition #11585308

Abstract

James Ward states that "in the year 1845 a murder was committed by a slave of your petitioner." He further recounts that "said slave was immediately delivered up to the Legal authorities of the state," resulting in his conviction of murder. Ward cites "that the value of said negro was as great as of any other good negro man, not possessed of mechanical genius & if alive now would be worth at least one thousand dollars." He therefore "requests that an Act be passed whereby petitioner may have advantage of the Laws now in force relative to this subject."

Result: Referred to committee on state affairs.
