In 1809, Thomas Stone of Charles County, Maryland, died, having bequeathed to his daughter, Mary Duffy, , a "Certain Negro girl slave named Jenny about ten years of age." Moses Duffy is Mary Stone Duffy's husband, and he the legislature permission to bring Jenny into Virginia. He explains that Jenny was the only legacy left to his wife by her father and she is the only slave owned by the Duffys.
