John Tucker, the executor of the estate of Colonel Hartwell Tucker, represents that his testator emancipated a faithful slave named Adam. He further avers that said "Adam was for many years a faithful domestic an unwearied meek and vigilant attendant on his master." Tucker recalls that "on one occasion he preserved the life of his master, when unarmed and with no means of defence, threw himself between his master and a mad man who armed with a Knife had violently assaulted & wounded him." Noting that Adam "is now near forty years old," the petitioner discloses that Adam's "wife by whom he has several children is a slave and cannot migrate with him." Tucker therefore prays that Adam "be permitted to spend the remnant of his life in Virginia."
