Wilson Morris requests that his wife Nancy and their three children be permitted to remain in Virginia. He represents that Francis Foster emancipated his wife and son James on 3 November 1831, "since which period said Nancy has had two other children, Sarah Jane between two & three years old at this time & Elizabeth between two & three months old." The petitioner declares that he is "a Cooper by trade, was born free anterior to May 1806 and has for the greater part of his life resided in the City of Richmond." He further discloses that "by following his trade with industry and attention and by conducting himself with honesty & propriety he has seemed to recommend himself to the patronage and employment of many of the most respectable mechanics & Citizens of said City." Morris therefore "humbly petitions that a Law may be passed granting permission to his said wife & three children to reside in this State and in the City of Richmond."
