Mary Batte represents that she was charged twice by the "commissioners of the revenue of the county of Brunswick" for "4 slaves and one four wheel riding carriage." Batte explains that one of her sons declared her property to a commissioner while she and another son declared the same property to another commissioner. Noting that "the tax on said 4 slaves and carriage was $5.72 1/2 cents," she "respectfully prays that said money may be refunded her."
