In November 1820, Thomas Bicknell, Thomas Snowden, and Gideon White petitioned the court to foreclose on a mortgage to Sabrit Journey, secured by the slaves Milly and Ann. In December 1821, the court ordered the sale of Journey's property and named Nicholas Brewer as a trustee to carry out the decree. In this petition, Nicholas Brewer informs the court that he sold the slave Ann for $251 to Bennett Hurst, but that Hurst has taken possession of the slave without paying the full sale price. Brewer asks the court to order Hurst to pay the full amount of the purchase price, plus interest.
