Petition #20184217
- Montgomery County, Alabama. October 8, 1842. - circa 1845.
- Court: Circuit
- Salutation: To the Honorable Anderson Crenshaw Chancellor & of the Southern Division of the State of Alabama
Abstract
William Patrick seeks to collect payment on a note "made and executed" by Charlotte Goodwin to Levi Shackleford. Patrick claims that he bought the note from Shackleford and, while he admits that the actual note has been lost, he asserts that he is the bona fide owner of the note, which has never been paid. The petitioner states that Charlotte Goodwin "is a married woman possessed of a seperate estate to her own seperate use. Consisting of negroes and stock and Land much more than sufficient to pay said debt." For this reason, Patrick asks that the court "to order & decree said note to be paid out of the Separate property of said Charlotte R. Goodwin."
Result: Granted.
