Wicker, who had signed a promissory note with James Brooks and William W. Carlisle as security. To pay the judgment, Wicker borrowed $195 from Brooks, in the process mortgaging "a Certain Negro boy a Slave by the Name of Bob about twenty one years old." When Wicker paid the debt, however, Brooks refused to return the slave. Wicker seeks "adequate relief."
<subjects><subject>Mortgage value (enslaved)</subject><subject>Assessed Value (enslaved)</subject></subjects></petition>
