- Chambers County, Alabama. October 14, 1845. - October 14, 1845.
- Court: Chancery
- Salutation: To the Honble James B. Clark Chancellor of the Middle Chancery Division of the State of Alabama
Abstract
In 1844, when a judgment was entered against slave owner Samuel Jeter in a divorce case against his wife Winney, he gave the sheriff one thousand dollars. The sheriff turned the money over to Asa Cone, Winney's brother and "next friend" in the proceedings. Now, Jeter says, he and Winney have "settled all their differences and misunderstandings," and the divorce suit has been dismissed. Jeter questions the accounting presented by Cone and asks for a refund of the $630 balance that remains after payment of Winney's expenses.
Result: Granted.
