Besides being shiftless, Harriet asserts, Daniel is a man with "a high temper and revengeful disposition" who does nothing for their six children.  Harriet owns, by inheritance a small amount of real property--land in Baldwin and Mobile counties.  She also owns four slaves, including a woman and her three small children.  She fears that, if she and her husband remain married, she will lose this small estate.
