Philip D. Forniss, the administrator of the estate of Charles F. Forniss, deceased, seeks to sell twelve slaves and divide the proceeds among the heirs. The "negroes cannot be equitably divided between those entitled," Forniss explains, "inasmuch as there are twelve negroes while there are five persons entitled to share in said property, and inasmuch as the negroes are very unequal in value some of them being quite old and of but little value." In the sale that followed, Joe sold for $1,025, Crocket for $1,050, and Abram for five dollars.
