Petition #20185832

Abstract

Benjamin and Eliza Gray, administrator and administratrix of the estate of Thomas B. Carson, who died before 1850, ask that the estate's "considerable number of slaves" be divided between Eliza, formerly married to Carson, who is entitled to a one-half interest, and her daughter Sallie, under age fourteen, who is entitled to the other half. Included with the petition is an aggregate account of the hire of slaves from the year 1850 through 1859. Although Eliza informs the court that Thomas Carson died in 1852, Carson actually died in or before 1850 since Eliza provides with her petition the inventory of his estate she had ordered be taken in 1850.
