Abstract
Josiah Whitman, the administrator of John W. Whitman's estate, requests permission to sell three slaves "in order to make distribution among the heirs" and "in order that the debts of the Estate may be paid off and discharged." The slaves include twenty-three-year-old Bill, sixteen-year-old Virginia, and eight-month-old Franklin, Virginia's son.
