Petition #20284501

Abstract

Aramynta and her four children petition for freedom. Aramynta states that she and three of her daughters were manumitted by the will of their late owner, Cyntha Robinson; her youngest child Mary was born since 1 January 1841, the date Robinson executed her will. The petitioners assert that said will directed that all of Robinson's "other property [was] to be sold and disposed of for the purpose of paying the debts against the estate." Arguing that there is in fact "more than sufficient property left" to pay all debts, Aramynta adds that bond was "given to prevent the Petitioner and her children from becoming a charge on the county." The petitioners therefore pray that they "be manumitted and set at liberty in conformity with said will; and that she & children to be and be discharged forever from all liability to pay the debts of said Cyntha."
