Abstract
Solomon, a man of color, states that he "is claimed as a Slave by a certain William Banks of Caroline County in the State of Maryland." He further asserts that he "apprehends himself entitled to his freedom, by a hire into this State, since the passing of a Law prohibiting the Same." Solomon asks that Banks, "his pretended master," be summoned "to answer the complaint of your Petitioner."
