Sally Barker, an "infant" petitioning by her next friend Henry M. Godwin, asks the court to summon Joseph Barker, "her pretended master." The petitioner states "that it is apprehended and verily believed" that she "was free born and is now entitled to her freedom." Sally charges that the said Joseph Barker claims her as his slave and "is about to take her as such, and to carry her out of the State of Delaware to the said Pittsburg as his slave."
