Petition #20382101

Abstract

Joseph B. Sims seeks permission to export and sell his manumitted term slaves--Dick, Jim, and July--ages six to fifteen. He reports that they have been "regularly manumitted to be free, at the age of thirty five years respectively." Sims requires "from the person to whom they are sold a written instrument under penalty that they are not to be sold or removed to the Southward of Maryland, the parents also being satisfied." He seeks to make the sale within the provisions of the act passed on 1 February 1810.
