Andrew Ross, a man of color, has a petition for his freedom and the freedom of his sister and her two children pending in circuit court. He seeks an injunction against Sarah Foushee and Sarah Chambers, "who illegally detained your petitioner in servitude." He charges that Foushee and Chambers intend to remove him from the District of Columbia and sell him "to some negro buyers in order that he may be carried to foreign parts, & thus be deprived of the right he has by law to a trial by witnesses for his freedom."
