Abstract
James Johnston, a "coloured boy by his next friend Sarah Johnston," states that he was "bound out by a Justice of the peace to a certain Coln. David Brearly," who plans to move to Arkansas and "insists on carrying your petitioner with him." Johnston asserts that Brearly has confined him to jail until Brearly "shall be ready to leave for the Territory aforesaid." Johnston seeks a writ of habeas corpus.
