Petition #20483807
- Washington County, District of Columbia. August 17, 1838. - August 17, 1838.
- Court: Circuit
- Salutation: To the Hon Judges of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for the County of Washington sitting as a Court of Chancery
Abstract
Anne Edinbro, a slave, asserts that her previous mistress, Mary Heugh, executed a deed of manumission on 19 September 1829, by which she would be free on 31 December 1846. Her term of service was sold to Robert Earle under the agreement that she would not be sold out of the District of Columbia or for a longer term of service. Edinbro contends that Earle sold and delivered her to David Waters as a slave for life. She seeks an injunction preventing Earle and Waters from removing or selling her beyond the jurisdiction of the court and asks that the defendants be summoned to answer her complaint.
Result: Granted.
