Abstract
Richard Waters, a person of color from Maryland, states that at the time of his birth his mother was free. While "he was quite young," his father, Thomas Waters, sold or bound him to Z. Willet who removed Waters to the District of Columbia. Waters believes that Willet has sold or is planning to sell him to P. Otterback for a period of five years. The petitioner argues that the indenture is illegal and seeks a writ of habeas corpus.
