Abstract
Amy Gaskins, of Fairfax County, Virginia, states that Thomas Hughes, of Washington City, paid the jail fees for her daughter, Maria Gaskins, a free person of color under the age of eighteen. Gaskins asserts that Hughes has kept her daughter in his custody "much longer than was necessary to remunerate himself for the amount of fees which he paid," and he still retains her. Gaskins seeks a writ of habeas corpus on behalf of her daughter.
