John Lee claims that he is a free person of color, "unlawfully detained in custody by one James T. Lloyd." Lee was bound as an apprentice on 13 January 1843 to Thomas Collins, and his "term of apprenticeship has long since expired." He seeks a writ of habeas corpus.
