Petition #20584502

Abstract

James Wachob, administrator of the estate of Arch Patterson, and Rebecca Patterson, administratrix of the estate of Joseph F. Wachob, report that a levy has been "made on a negro boy Jim, about twelve years old and worth about two hundred and fifty dollars, belonging to the estate of said J F Wachob." They further relate that Jim is slated to be sold at auction unless the court authorizes "him to be sold at private sale." Believing that Jim will fetch more at private sale, the petitioners ask permission to sell the slave child privately. [Directly following this petition is the following court record: "An Inventory and appraisement of the goods and chattels, rights and credits of Carey W Josey dec made this 20th day of December 1845 viz," wherein the names, ages, and values of seven slaves are listed. The petition concerning the estate of Carey W. Josey is not part of the Project's collection, but the above cited information has been entered into database as part of this petition.]
