Petition #20585509
- Putnam County, Florida. November 10, 1855. - circa 0 .
- Court: Probate
- Salutation: To the Honorable Henry R. Teasedale Judge of Probate in and for the County of Putnam, State of Florida
Abstract
The heirs of George Oliver claim, in court records from Georgia, that the "negro woman" Isabella had improper influence over Oliver thereby necessitating that the will's probate be revoked. The petitioners point to several examples of Isabella's hand in the will. First, the will instructs the executors to connect Isabella and her two adopted daughters, Mary and Margaret, with the American Colonization Society for their removal to Liberia. In addition, the will also establishes that Isabella and family receive dividends from bank stock held by Oliver. Lastly, the heirs point out Isabella's undue influence on the late George Oliver by citing the will's express provision that the "disobedient and undutiful" Henry G. Oliver be left out of any possible resolution of the father's estate.
