Petition #20585510

Abstract

Venancio Sanchez reminds the court that Cornelius Dupont secured a debt of $50 by mortgaging a six-year-old slave named John. Claiming that "the whole amount thereof is now due and owing to your Orator," Sanchez states that Sabrina Crespo Dupont, the wife of said Cornelius, now claims to have purchased said slave from her father, Manuel Crespo, in 1847 and that John is her property as can be verified by a bill of sale. Noting that John is currently in the possession of Sabrina and her father, the petitioner prays that they both be enjoined from removing said slave out of the court's jurisdiction, that they and Cornelius Dupont answer his allegations, and that "Cornelius Dupont may be decreed to pay to your Orator the amount of said promissory note with interest thereon."
