Petition #20585802

Abstract

R. B. Bellamy, administrator of Samuel C. Bellamy's estate, represents that "the sales of the negroes of said estate made last winter did not pay all the debts of said estate," noting that there still remains "executions against said estate amounting to between six & thousand dollars." Bellamy declares "there is no property except the real estate and thirteen slaves" left in the estate. He therefore prays that he be permitted "to sell said slaves or a sufficient number to pay said debts." [An appraisal and inventory of the estate of Margaret B. Russ is part of the docket record attached to this petition. Since the Project does not contain a petition for the Russ inventory, the names and values of twenty-six slaves held by the Russ estate are included in this record.]
