Wyatt Lancaster states that his wife, Sarah, widow of the late Berry A. Templeton, was "possessed in her own right and as her separate property" of five slaves: Renna, Martha, Joseph, and Charlotte and her child William. Lancaster maintains that these slaves were mistakenly included in the inventory of Templeton's estate, which did contain one slave named William. Lancaster asks that commissioners be appointed to divide the estate among the heirs, with Sarah receiving one third of the estate having chosen to take "a child's portion of the said estate in lieu of her dower." The petitioner also requests that guardians be appointed for the two minor children.
