Abstract
John Carroway Smith and James Kennedy borrowed money from Peter Gaillard and Samuel Duboise in 1790. To secure this loan, they mortgaged eight slaves "together with the future issue and increase of the females." Gaillard and Duboise ask that Smith and Kennedy be forced to repay the loan or that they be allowed to foreclose on the mortgage.
