John P. Williamson and Zachariah Hoskins write that they were possessed of three slaves, valued at $2,000, in their role as assignees of the property of Matthew Shearer, a bankrupt. They contend that, on 1 January 1803, they "casually lost" the slaves, who ended up, on that same day, in the possession of Moses Way. The petitioners contend that Way knew that the slaves belonged to them, but has not yet returned them. Instead, he "converted & disposed of the said Negro slaves to his own proper use." Williamson and Hoskins ask for intervention on their behalf.
