In 1796, Jane Hunter was the owner of six Negroes valued at $4,000. Hunter claims that she "casually lost" the slaves, and the latter ended up in the possession of Jane Bunton. Jane Bunton has since married Robert Fullwood and the slaves are still in the couple's possession. Hunter alleges that the defendants knew that the slaves were her property, but "converted the said negros" to their "proper use & advantage." Hunter estimates that she has sustained $6,000 in damages. She sues for this amount.
