Richardson Hunt petitions the court, "in right of his wife" Nancy M. Carter, for the settlement of a dispute regarding the estate of his father-in-law, the late Thomas George Carter. The late Carter died intestate. Hunt contends that Thomas S. Carter and Charles Carter, administrators of the estate and two of the late Carter's eight children, have taken possession of the supposedly large estate, and have among other things collected the hires of the slaves amounting to $1,000 or some "other large sum" of money. They have also failed to give the petitioner his distributive share of the estate on his wife's behalf, although requested to do so. Hunt asks that his two brothers-in-law be compelled to answer his allegations in detail and to settle the accounts of the estate.
