James Trowell was the owner of a slave valued at $200 named Hannah. On 13 July 1811, he lost the slave, who ended up in the possession of John P. Harvey "by finding." Trowell alleges that Harvey knew that Hannah belonged to him, "but contriving and fraudulently intending craftily and subtily to defraud [him] ... converted & disposed of the same negro wench to his own use." Trowell claims $300 in damages.
