Abstract
Charles Goolsby was the overseer of Thomas L. Jones's plantation hands. In exchange for this service, Goolsby claims that he was to receive "one fourth part of all the corn, wheat, oats, Cotton & Brandy that your petitioner with the hands so to be put under him ... Should make." However, in August, Jones "without any Just Cause or provocation" removed Goolsby from his employment; Jones refused "to pay your petitioner the reasonable value" for his work, which Goolsby estimates at $200. Goolsby sues for $400 in damages.
Result: Partially granted; appealed; settled.
