Edward Allgood alleges that Hiram Jones "hath damaged your petitioner to the amount of five hundred Dollars." Jones "with force and arms (to wit) with swiches reed canes and fists made an assault on one negro Girl slave by the name of Luce," the property of Allgood. He claims that Jones "beat bruised wounded & ill-treated" Luce so much that Allgood feared Luce would die. Allgood claims that Luce "was rendered unable to perform her usual work" by Jones's assault and he "was deprived of the Service of the said negro Girl Slave for a long time, to wit, for the space of twenty days." In addition, Allgood "did lay out and Expend a large sum of money in paying off doctors bills for attendance and medicines used." He sues for $500 damages.
Result: Settled.
