Petition #20681609

Abstract

Samuel and Nancy Jones, executors of Phillip Jones's last will and testament, allege that Thomas Butler "unjustly detains from your petitioners the sum of Six hundred & sixty one dollars, Eighty seven & a half cents." Butler incurred a debt of $238.27 for work "done performed & bestowed" by Jones and his "servants." Butler also hired three slaves named Cato, Brister and Jim from Jones for $250, and owes Jones's estate further sums for "Corn Cotton & fodder." The petitioners claim that Butler has refused to satisfy any of the debts, and claim $1,000 damages.
