John Middleton, son of the late Robert Middleton, petitions for the settlement of his father's estate. Middleton left a large estate, valued at $55,000, which included land and slaves. John Middleton, Martha Woods, Mary Tait, Nancy Middleton and James Middleton are his children and heirs, and Betsey C. Middleton is his widow and administratrix. The petitioner charges that Betsey C. Middleton has taken possession of the estate and sold some of the personal property "and earned great sums of money." Included in the estate, according to John Middleton, were funds from hiring out the slaves. Betsey C. Middleton has refused to account for her administration of the estate, and to divide the property among the heirs. He asks that Betsey C. Middleton settle the affairs of the estate and distribute it among the heirs.
