Abstract

William King alleges that Alexander Campbell assaulted him, took his canoe "& also, with great force & violence, seized and took from your petitioner a certain negro man slave," who was valued at $500, as well as his "utensils for cooking & all his provisions." King explains that "with the aid & assistance of said negro slave," he had gone to a creek "for the purpose, & with the intention, of fishing." King was stranded there and believes he would have died had he not been rescued. Subsequently, Campbell "converted and disposed" of King's property "to his own use." He sues for $1,000 in damages.
