Petition #20682007

Abstract

Thomas Mitchell presents that in 1819 he was the owner of four slaves, valued at $3,000, collectively. He claims that he "casually lost" the slaves and that the latter came into the possession of Furney F. Gatlin and Richard Mitchell. Thomas Mitchell alleges that the defendants knew that the slaves were his property but, with intent to deceive and defraud him, have refused to return them and have instead put them to their own use. Thomas Mitchell sues for $3,000 in damages.
