Abstract
James P. Poythress sues Job Herrington for slander and asks for $2,000 in damages. Poythress claims that he enjoyed a solid reputation in his community until he was charged by Herrington of harboring and concealing a slave named Sam, Herrington's property. Because of these accusations and allegations, Poythress was indicted and tried by jury. Although he was acquitted of any wrongdoing, he contends that he has incurred legal expenses. He sues for damages.
