The four petitioners are the executors of Edmond Shackleford's estate. They claim that they were in possession of a slave named Trump, property of the estate, valued at $1,000. They allege that they "casually lost" the slave, and the latter came into the possession of John Seal. The Shacklefords contend that Seal knew that the slave belonged to the estate but, with intent to defraud, has not delivered him to them. Subsequently, Seal "converted the said negro man slave Trump to his own use." The Shacklefords sue for $2,000 in damages.
