Abstract
John Upshaw sues William Tate for $2,000 in damages. Upshaw was the owner of five slaves, valued at $2,100, collectively. He claims that he "casually lost" the slaves, and that they came into the possession of William Tate. Upshaw claims that Tate knew that the Negroes belonged to him, but with intent to deceive, "converted and disposed of said negro slaves to his own use."
Result: Denied; appealed.
